There’s an Excessive Heat Warning in our forecast! This week, temperatures in some local areas will be over 100 degrees! Keep your pets safe by never leaving your pet in the car, watching out for hot pavement, always providing water and shade, limiting exercise, and watching out for signs of heat stroke.
Fleas, Ticks, and Heartworm - oh my! #LetsPaws and take a look at why it's important to protect your pets against Fleas, Ticks, and Heartworm this summer.
FLEAS & TICKS:
·Fleas are the most common parasite found on pets, and they can even be found on indoor-only pets.
·Fleas are a host to other parasites like tapeworms.
·Tick-borne diseases are spread through the tick’s saliva and can transmit disease in the body and bloodstream.
·Tick-borne diseases in animals and humans include: Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease.
HEARTWORM DISEASE:
·Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes and can infect the heart, liver, and lungs if untreated.
·Most Heartworm preventatives also protect against intestinal worms.
CONSULT WITH YOUR VETERINARIAN ABOUT FLEA, TICK, AND HEARTWORM PREVENTION TO KEEP YOU PETS SAFE THIS SUMMER!
OC Animal Care is happy to announce that our August Volunteer of the Month is Debbie Dajee! Debbie is a loyal dog volunteer who is easily in the Top 5 volunteers with hours every month. She has been volunteering for just over 3 years now and passionately devotes her time to our “bigs”. Debbie recently took Storm, our longest shelter resident, to Foster as he had a rescue commitment and needed a 3 week temporary Foster. Debbie didn’t give it a second thought, and took Storm home. While we believe that all our volunteers are Superheroes, Storm would agree that Debbie fits the bill!
