On July 1-2, 2023, the City of Huntington Beach is partnering with OC Animal Care to waive pet adoption fees for Huntington Beach residents!

All Summer Long at OC Animal Care offers three distinct sections, ensuring there is something for everyone, including prospective pet owners, current pet owners and those looking to get involved with the shelter.
The Fourth of July is a time for celebration, but it's important to remember that our furry friends need some extra care and attention during this festive period! From the potential hazards of fireworks to the summer heat to the temptation of tasty party treats, it's important to prioritize the safety of our beloved pets.
Loud fireworks, gatherings, and unfamiliar experiences can cause stress and increase the risk of pets getting scared or lost. Follow these valuable tips to ensure the safety and security of your pets during the Fourth.
Bring your pets inside. The loud noises and flash of the fireworks can cause your pets to get scared and run away.
Microchip & ID your pets. Make sure your pet has visible ID tags and a microchip with updated information.
Provide a safe and secure space. Have a space designated for your pets such as a quiet room or crate, and provide them with treat toys and calming music for distraction.
Exercise early in the day. Walk and play with your pet to tire them out before the fireworks begin to help alleviate stress and avoid accidents.

As we celebrate amidst the summer heat, it's crucial to prioritize the safety and well-being of our furry companions in the face of potential heat-related risks.
Never leave your pet in the car. If you see an animal in a hot car, try to locate its owner or call 911!
Watch out for hot pavement. Remember, if it’s too hot for bare feet, it’s too hot for bare paws!
Always provide water and shade. Bring your pets inside during the hot day and let them rest in a cool part of the house.
Limit exercise. Exercise in the early morning and late evening to avoid the heat.
Watch for signs of heatstroke. Excessive panting, excessive drooling, high heart rate, discolored gums, mobility problems, high body temperature, vomiting and diarrhea are some of the most common symptoms. If your pet is experiencing these symptoms, contact your vet immediately!

To become a foster and make a difference in the life of a shelter dog this summer, interested individuals are invited to attend the orientation session. During the orientation, the shelter's team will guide prospective fosters through the program, answer any questions and facilitate sign-ups.

OC Animal Care will match each dog with a foster family that aligns with their lifestyle and availability, ensuring a harmonious and rewarding experience for both the foster and the dog. The program welcomes participants for flexible fostering commitments, ranging from two weeks to two months. Throughout the fostering period, the shelter team will be available to offer guidance and support for a smooth and rewarding experience for both fosters and dogs alike.

Fostering provides a unique opportunity to bond with a lovable pet, offers them the comfort of a home environment and plays a vital role in their journey towards finding a permanent, loving home for dogs like Lewis! Lewis (A1781609) is a five-year-old husky who has been a resident of the shelter for 291 days. With his love for walks and getting along well with other dogs, he's eager to experience the joys of a foster home where he can relax and thrive!
