Animal Care Center (Shelter)
OC Animal Care
Serving Orange County's residents and animals
The Animal Care Center provides temporary shelter and medical care for "lost" owned or stray animals and provides opportunities for adoption of these animals. Locating a new pet at the Care Center:
The Animal Care Center is the largest shelter on the west coast, with 382 dog runs and housing for over 300 cats. There is a variety of species to choose from when looking for a new pet. On any given day, about 20% of the dogs and cats are available for immediate adoption. What is the cost of a dog?
The total purchase price for a dog will vary depending on the dog's age and a spay/neuter fee. All dogs receive an application of Frontline flea spot and vaccinations that protect them from distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, leptospirosis, bordatella and rabies. Additionally, puppies are dewormed. Dogs over 4-months of age also receive a one-year license if the dog will reside within Orange County’s licensing jurisdiction. The spay/neuter fee is also included. OC Animal Care strongly supports pet sterilization. Spayed females are normally healthier, live longer, and do not come into heat, which attracts un-neutered males to your property. Neutered males are better companion animals. Additional benefits include a reduced risk of cancer and a substantial reduction in your pet license fee. What is the cost of a cat?
The cost for a cat includes a Leukemia test and applicable vaccinations depending on the cat's age, and a spay/neuter fee. All surgeries are performed on site with pick up available the next day. What is the return policy?
If a medical or behavioral problem is discovered within 14 days of the date of adoption, you may return your pet with your sales receipt to the Animal Care Center. The Animal Care Center does not pay for medical services after adoption. You will have 30 days to select the same kind of replacement animal. Adoption fees are not refundable. How to claim your impounded pet at the Care Center:
To ensure that an animal is returned to its rightful owner, you may be asked to provide either vaccination history or a photograph of your pet. You will be asked to verify the city and major cross streets where your pet was lost; and the date you last saw your pet Click
